The Stormers ended the Sharks’ perfect start to the United Rugby Championship season with a 39–22 bonus-point victory at DHL Stadium on Saturday, 10 October 2026. The hosts scored six tries to three, taking all five league points while the visitors left Cape Town empty-handed.
Hacjivah Dayimani crossed twice, with Seabelo Senatla, André-Hugo Venter, Leolin Zas and JJ Kotze also scoring. The win provided a strong response to the Stormers’ defeat at Edinburgh and gave Siya Kolisi a successful reunion against his former Sharks teammates.
Our Stormers vs Sharks preview highlighted the front-row contest and the impact of the returning Springboks. On Saturday, the home pack turned those talking points into the platform for a convincing derby win.
The Stormers take control up front
Senatla opened the scoring before Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu added a penalty for an 8–0 lead. The Sharks responded through a Manu Tshituka try and a Gianni Lombard penalty, bringing the teams level at 8–8.
The Stormers then began to pull away. Dayimani scored from a rolling maul, and Venter followed with another maul try on the stroke of half-time. The hosts went into the break 22–8 ahead.
The Stormers’ official match report shows how heavily that lead depended on their forwards. Scrum pressure created opportunities, while the driving maul gave the home side a reliable route to the tryline.
Discipline made the challenge harder for the Sharks. Matt Romao was yellow-carded for a dangerous tackle, and Tshituka followed him to the sin bin before the interval. The visitors were temporarily reduced to 13 players at a stage when the Stormers were already building pressure.
Dayimani double settles Kolisi reunion
Kolisi helped stretch the lead shortly after the restart. His strong carry took the Stormers into the Sharks’ 22, and Zas picked up close to the line to score the fourth try and secure the bonus point.
Dayimani’s second came from a scrum driven over the Sharks’ goal line. It was a fitting reward for the Stormers’ dominance in that contest, and a different finish from his first-half maul try.
The Sharks did find a response. Romao and Phepsi Buthelezi scored as they cut the deficit to 34–22, giving the visitors a route back into the game. Kotze then crossed from another rolling maul to complete the scoring and put the result beyond them.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu was named player of the match. His three conversions and a penalty contributed nine points, while his work behind the pack helped the Stormers make use of their forward advantage.
Injury concerns add to the Sharks setback
The Sharks also lost Eben Etzebeth and flyhalf Vusi Moyo to injuries in the first half. SuperSport’s match reportrecords both exits, as well as Evan Roos withdrawing before kick-off with a hamstring niggle.
Those are important team-news details for the next matches. An injury exit does not establish how long a player will be unavailable, so the next squad announcements and medical updates will be more useful than assuming an extended absence.
The Betting Read
The Stormers vs Sharks result produced a home win, a 17-point winning margin and 61 total points. Those are the key figures when reviewing the match-winner, handicap and total-points markets explained in our URC betting guide.
The handicap line still determines the outcome of that bet. A Stormers selection at –16.5 would have cleared the line; at –17.5 it would not. Backing the winning team and backing it to cover a particular margin are different decisions.
Our reading for future matches is that the Stormers’ set-piece performance deserves attention alongside their returning internationals. For the Sharks, the scrum problems, costly yellow cards and injury disruptions deserve separate consideration. Their wins over Ospreys and Leinster still form part of the picture, but Cape Town exposed problems that need a response.
What comes next in the URC
The Stormers now have 11 league points, one more than the Sharks’ 10. Both sides have won two of their opening three games, so this result changes the early comparison without settling how either season will unfold.
The official URC schedule lists the Sharks away to Cardiff on Friday, 23 October, and the Stormers at home to Scarlets on Saturday, 24 October. Those are their next league fixtures, with player availability and the selected packs among the details to check before assessing the prices.
