Siya Kolisi faces his former Sharks teammates as the DHL Stormers host the Hollywoodbets Sharks at DHL Stadium on Saturday, 10 October 2026. Kick-off is at 16:00 SAST, and both match-day squads have now been announced for a derby that brings some of South Africa’s biggest rugby names into direct competition.
The Stormers have selected 11 Springboks across their 23, with Cobus Reinach, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Damian Willemse returning to the starting backline. The Sharks arrive unbeaten after two bonus-point wins, and have promoted Ox Nché, Eben Etzebeth and Ethan Hooker from the bench for their first away game of the season.

The Sharks bring winning form to Cape Town
The Sharks beat Ospreys 41–24 in their opener, then defeated defending champions Leinster 26–20. Those two bonus-point victories put them top of the early URC table on 10 points. The Stormers have six points from one win and one defeat, with their 17–13 loss at Edinburgh leaving them looking for a response at home.
Our weekend sports wrap covered the contrasting Round 2 results. The Sharks’ official Leinster match report shows how scrum pressure built their platform, before Etzebeth’s carrying and Edwill van der Merwe’s late interception helped settle the game.
Saturday asks a different question of that form. The Sharks must reproduce it away from Durban, against a Stormers side strengthened by returning internationals. Two rounds give us a useful starting point, but the changed teams deserve more attention than the league positions alone.
Kolisi’s reunion leads the team news
Kolisi made his Stormers comeback against Edinburgh last week. This time he starts at blindside flank alongside Paul de Villiers and Hacjivah Dayimani, with Evan Roos available among the replacements. His return to Cape Town adds a personal edge to a match against players he recently shared a Sharks dressing room with.
John Dobson’s side also welcomes Wilco Louw back into its front row for his first Stormers appearance since 2020. Ruhan Nel captains from outside centre. For the Sharks, André Esterhuizen leads a side with Etzebeth at lock, Jaden Hendrikse and Vusi Moyo at halfback, and Hooker on the left wing.

The match-ups that could decide the derby
The selections make the contest especially interesting up front, but the value of that forward work will depend on how the halfbacks use it. The following is our assessment of where the game could turn.
A Springbok test in the front row
Nché and Thomas du Toit give the Sharks formidable options on either side of Eduan Swart. Across from them, Louw joins Ntuthuko Mchunu and André-Hugo Venter. The Sharks gained repeated scrum penalties against Leinster, but Louw’s return changes the challenge in Cape Town.
Scrum penalties can turn pressure into territory without an attacking side having to work through several phases. The first few engagements should offer a clearer read on this contest than simply carrying the Sharks’ Durban performance into Saturday. Etzebeth also gives the visitors a major carrying threat once they establish field position.
Halfbacks and centres under pressure
Reinach and Feinberg-Mngomezulu give the Stormers a halfback combination capable of attacking around the ruck and challenging the defensive line. Hendrikse and Moyo will need to manage territory and make good use of whatever platform the Sharks pack creates. Fast, clean possession would make either backline harder to contain.
In midfield, Esterhuizen lines up opposite Jonathan Roche at inside centre, with Jurenzo Julius facing Nel at No. 13. Those are important defensive assignments: a strong carry through the middle can draw defenders in and create room for the wings. Willemse’s presence at fullback adds another attacking option for the hosts, against a Sharks back three of Hooker, Van der Merwe and Zekhethelo Siyaya.
Kolisi and the loose-forward contest
Kolisi’s reunion will draw the attention, but the loose-forward battle involves all six starters. De Villiers and Dayimani complete the home trio; Matt Romao, Manu Tshituka and Phepsi Buthelezi start for the visitors. Their work at the tackle area will influence the quality of ball reaching the halfbacks and how quickly either defence can reset.
The bench and the final quarter
The Stormers can introduce Deon Fourie at hooker and Roos in the back row, with Neethling Fouché also available to renew the scrum contest. The Sharks have Vincent Koch, Jason Jenkins and Stephan Lewies among their replacement forwards. Both coaches have enough forward cover to make changes without abandoning the set-piece battle.
Pead and Ivan van Zyl offer fresh options at scrumhalf, while Wandisile Simelane and Lombard complete the backline cover. The timing of those changes could matter in a close game, particularly if the starting packs have spent an hour working through repeated scrums and contact.
What happens next
The Stormers get their first home URC match of the season, while the Sharks face their first test on the road. A home win would interrupt the Sharks’ perfect start; an away win would give the Durban side a third straight league victory. The remaining match-day question is whether either coach has to make a late change to the announced 23.
The Betting Read
The Stormers’ home advantage and returning internationals make them a compelling prospect, but the Sharks bring a convincing set-piece performance against Leinster and maximum points from their opening two matches. Those strengths pull the assessment in different directions. The available price must do the rest of the work.
A match-winner assessment and a handicap assessment also ask different questions. You can favour a team to win without expecting it to clear a demanding points start. With this much quality in both packs and meaningful options on both benches, the margin deserves as much thought as the winner.
Use our South African sports betting guide to understand those market differences, then compare the current line for this confirmed fixture. The strongest basis for a decision is the selected teams and the price offered for them, with the early-season results providing context.
