Manchester City lead this Premier League weekend wrap after beating Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield on Sunday, 11 October. Enzo Maresca’s side have won all six league matches and sit on 18 points, three clear of Arsenal, who recovered from a goal down to beat Leeds 2-1 on Saturday.

Chelsea supplied the biggest scoreline with a 5-1 win over Bournemouth, while Brighton’s 2-0 victory at Sunderland kept them third. For South African punters, the weekend sharpened the title-race picture and raised fresh questions about goals markets, European contenders and two big clubs still struggling to find their feet.

City Punish Ten Man Liverpool at Anfield

Liverpool entered the match without Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo, the absences covered in our Liverpool injury update. Even so, the hosts were competitive while the sides had equal numbers, and the game remained goalless until Ryan Gravenberch’s second booking in the 62nd minute.

City made the extra player count almost immediately. Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 65th minute, substitute Jeremy Doku added a second three minutes later and Rayan Cherki finished the job in the 78th. City’s official match report confirms a sixth straight league victory and a three-point advantage over Arsenal.

Doku’s return gave City a direct threat from the bench, but the dismissal is central to assessing the result. The Premier League’s analysis records that 11 of City’s 15 shots came against ten men. Their finishing deserved the headlines; Liverpool’s performance before the red card deserves a place in the next match assessment too.

Arsenal Recover While Chelsea Hit Five

Arsenal had a different problem to solve at the Emirates. James Justin put Leeds ahead in the 55th minute, before Riccardo Calafiori equalised and Bruno Guimaraes supplied the winner. Mikel Arteta’s changes helped turn a difficult afternoon into three points, leaving the champions on 15 after six matches.

That response followed Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton before the international break. Leeds also left with evidence that they can compete: their first league loss came after taking the lead away to the champions. From a betting perspective, the final result gives us reasons to assess both sides more closely.

At Stamford Bridge, Jordan Henderson and Joao Pedro scored twice each, with Morgan Rogers also on target in Chelsea’s 5-1 win. Henderson and Rogers established a two-goal lead within three minutes, and Pedro struck again immediately after half-time. Evanilson’s reply proved only a brief interruption.

Chelsea’s own analysis of their finishing against Bournemouth adds useful context: they generated around 1.1 expected goals, compared with Bournemouth’s 1.38. Expected goals estimates the quality of chances. Scoring five from that total reflects exceptional finishing, which is worth weighing before projecting another rout.

The attack gives Xabi Alonso plenty to build on, while conceding again keeps Chelsea’s defensive performance in the conversation. Our soccer betting guide explains the different questions posed by team goals, match totals and both teams to score.

Brighton Strengthen Their Case as United and Spurs Stumble

Brighton followed their win over Arsenal with a 2-0 success at Sunderland, despite Pascal Struijk’s dismissal. They have now won three consecutive league games without conceding. Third place and that defensive run make them a team to track closely when assessing the European places.

Manchester United, meanwhile, let another opportunity slip. Bryan Mbeumo put them ahead against Tottenham, but Dominic Solanke rescued a 1-1 draw in stoppage time after Spurs had lost Rodrigo Bentancur to a red card. United have six points from six games, their lowest total at this stage in the Premier League era. Spurs remain winless.

Elsewhere, Ipswich overturned a late deficit to beat Fulham 2-1, leaving Fulham still searching for a league win. Palace came back to beat Nottingham Forest 3-1, Hull drew 2-2 with Everton and Aston Villa shared four goals with Brentford. Everton and Brentford remain unbeaten after six league matches.

The Next Tests

City host Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday, bringing squad selection and recovery into focus after Anfield. Arsenal also have European action before their next league trip to Nottingham Forest. Chelsea’s next league game is away to Everton, while United head to Leeds.

Those opponents give the weekend’s performances a practical follow-up. Chelsea will face an unbeaten side away from home, and United must respond against a Leeds team that tested Arsenal. Assessing those match-ups gives you more to work with than simply carrying the latest score into the next bet.

The Betting Read

City’s six wins put them at the centre of the title discussion, with Arsenal still within three points. Our view is that this weekend strengthens City’s footballing case, while Arsenal’s recovery shows why the race remains competitive. A title selection still needs a price that justifies the season-long commitment.

Chelsea offer the clearest reason to revisit goals markets. Their fast starts and finishing create opportunities to assess attacking selections, but the chance figures from Saturday suggest caution about expecting five goals every week. Brighton’s run is a different proposition: look at their chance prevention and the next opponent when assessing clean-sheet or goals lines.

United and Tottenham also need to earn their place on a bet slip through current performance. Solanke’s late equaliser was encouraging for Spurs, but both clubs left Old Trafford without a win. If you’re combining selections, our accumulator betting guide explains how each added leg changes the overall chance of success.
