Our Recommended Sports Betting Apps Reviewed

Our team of experts spent hours testing these sportsbooks to show you exactly what you can expect from setting up accounts and depositing to placing bets and requesting withdrawals.

We also tested their mobile experiences, with the downloaded apps and browser versions covered in our full reviews. Here’s what stood out, what frustrated us and which option we’d choose for different bettors in South Africa.

World Sports Betting – Best All-Round Mobile Choice

WSB Mobile Betting App in South Africa

WSB takes our top spot because it handled everyday mobile betting well during our tests. We used the Android and iPhone apps and found both quick to load and easy to navigate, with deposits and withdrawals feeling just as straightforward as on desktop.

The live markets were responsive on the bigger fixtures, and the match tracker is a useful extra when you want to follow the action without watching a stream. If you follow several sports, this is the app we’d start with.

Our World Sports Betting review also covers its separate Free Mode service, which lets you browse and bet on supported sports without using your data bundle. That’s a practical advantage if you’re betting on prepaid data.

You can download the main app through the official WSB app page for Android, Apple or Huawei. Our iPhone installation needed a few App Store refreshes, but once it installed, the app ran smoothly.

What we like

  • Official downloads cover Android, Apple and Huawei devices
  • Live match tracking helps you follow games without streaming
  • Mobile deposits and withdrawals felt as straightforward as desktop
  • Android and iPhone apps were quick and easy to use during our tests
  • Separate Free Mode provides data-free access to supported sports betting

What we don't

  • Streaming and casino features sit outside Free Mode
  • Our iPhone download needed several App Store refreshes

Hollywoodbets – Best for Local Sport and Companion Apps

Free Betting App at Hollywoodbets

Hollywoodbets impressed us with how much of its sportsbook carried across to the main Android app. Installation was quick, navigation worked well and we didn’t find it missing the features we’d used on desktop.

Quick Bet was handy for getting into popular markets, while Bet Builder and Props Builder gave us more choice when putting selections together. Our account test also included a successful R10 Samsung Pay deposit and a Test rugby bet, so our recommendation comes from using the platform ourselves.

In our Hollywoodbets review, we also explored its wider app range, including Live Scores, Pitchside and Punters Challenge. There’s plenty here for someone who follows local sport and racing beyond the bets themselves.

The main betting app has Android APK, Apple and Huawei options, with separate data-free access available too. Our main criticism is how busy everything can feel at first. Start with the betting app, then add the companion products you’ll actually use.

What we like

  • Quick Bet made popular betting markets easy to find
  • Tested Android app retained the desktop features we used
  • Bet Builder and Props Builder offer more detailed selections
  • Separate data-free access is available on supported networks
  • Companion apps cover scores, football coverage and prediction competitions

What we don't

  • The number of products and menus can feel overwhelming initially
  • Main Android app installation uses an APK rather than Google Play

10bet – Best for Racing Research on Your Phone

10bet Mobile Betting in SA

10bet’s Android app gave us a complete mobile betting experience rather than a cut-down version of the site. We could move between the sportsbook, racing, banking and account controls without struggling with the menus.

For racing bettors, RaceLab is the standout feature. Its form and speed information gives you more to work with before choosing a runner, while the available racing streams add another reason to keep the platform open on race day.

Our 10bet review included registration, verification, a R50 Visa deposit and a withdrawal, alongside testing its betting tools and support. We liked the clearly organised menus, even if the design was fairly basic.

Download options cover Android APK, Apple App Store and Huawei AppGallery, although Android was the version we personally tested. Support was another strong point: live chat is available around the clock, and our email received a detailed reply in under an hour.

What we like

  • Support performed well in our live-chat and email tests
  • Live racing streams are available alongside the markets
  • RaceLab adds useful form and speed information for racing
  • Download options cover Android, Apple and Huawei devices
  • Tested Android app included betting, banking and account controls

What we don't

  • Cash Out and Partial Cash Out exclude certain bet types
  • The design is fairly basic compared with some competing apps

YesPlay – Best for Straightforward Mobile Betting

YesPlay Mobile Sports Betting in SA

YesPlay was one of the easier sportsbooks to settle into during our testing. We used both the Android and iOS apps and found quick loading, smooth navigation and a clean layout that worked well on smaller screens. Both versions kept the sports, markets, rewards and account tools we’d seen on desktop.

We recorded 19 sports categories and placed a live soccer bet during our wider review, so there’s enough here for regular sports betting without making the menus feel crowded.

Our YesPlay review also gave us a good impression of its banking. Our R50 SCode deposit at Checkers credited before we left the shop, and our verified R140 withdrawal to FNB arrived instantly. That was our result, rather than a promise for every payout.

The official download page on YesPlay’s website explains Android APK and Apple installation, with Huawei AppGallery also available. We tested Android and iOS ourselves, but unfortunately the Huawei version wasn’t part of our hands-on test as we didn’t have access to that device.

What we like

  • Android and iOS apps ran smoothly during our tests
  • Clean menus made the sportsbook easy to navigate
  • Google Pay deposits started at R1 during our review
  • Mobile versions kept the desktop sports and account tools
  • Download options cover Android, Apple and Huawei devices

What we don't

  • Alternative payout methods unlock only after an EFT withdrawal
  • Android installation requires an APK download outside Google Play

ZARbet – Best for Price Controls and Browser Betting

ZARbet Mobile Sports App

ZARbet’s mobile website was good enough that we didn’t feel pushed to install an app. It loaded quickly, the menus resized properly and we didn’t find missing sportsbook functions compared with desktop.

What stood out most was the control over changing odds. We could choose to approve a price change, accept an improved price or accept any movement. If you regularly bet live, having those choices clearly available is a useful part of the experience.

Our ZARbet review also covered Bet Builder, full and Partial Cash Out, plus tests of all three support channels. We found the interface fairly clean, with useful tools easy to reach. If you prefer an installed app, there’s an Apple App Store version for iPhone and iPad, alongside an Android APK route.

The R250 minimum withdrawal is the main drawback we’d weigh up, particularly if you like taking out smaller amounts after individual bets.

What we like

  • Betslip settings give you control over changing odds
  • Full and Partial Cash Out are available on eligible bets
  • Dedicated Apple and Android app options are available
  • Bet Builder supports compatible selections from the same event
  • Mobile website worked smoothly without losing desktop sportsbook functions

What we don't

  • Android app installation requires downloading an APK
  • R250 minimum withdrawals are less convenient for smaller balances

Play.co.za – Best for Sports Variety and Flexible Betting Tools

Play.co.za Free Mobile App for Bettors in South Africa

Play.co.za’s sportsbook was the strongest part of our test. We found more than 30 sports alongside esports, and moving between the full schedules and live events was straightforward. The layout stayed uncluttered even with plenty of markets to explore.

We also liked the range of betting controls: Bet Builder, full and Partial Cash Out, Bet Edit and an option to request improved odds. If you enjoy looking beyond the main soccer and rugby fixtures, there’s plenty to keep you interested.

In our Play.co.za review, we registered, completed FICA, deposited R30 using 1Voucher, placed bets and received a bank withdrawal within the advertised timeframe. Live chat connected us to an agent almost immediately too.

The official website advertises an “Install the Play.co.za App” option, giving you an installation route to explore alongside browser access. Our recommendation centres on the sportsbook and account journey we tested, with payouts worth planning around its business-day processing hours.

What we like

  • Our deposit, support and withdrawal tests went smoothly
  • Bet Edit and odds requests provide further betting controls
  • More than 30 sports plus esports give you plenty of choice
  • Bet Builder and eligible full or Partial Cash Out add flexibility
  • Uncluttered sportsbook made schedules and live events easy to browse

What we don't

  • Cash Out and Bet Edit aren’t available for every wager
  • Withdrawal reviews follow business-day processing hours

Betting App or Mobile Website: Which Should You Use?

You don’t need to download an app to get a good mobile betting experience. During our ZARbet review, we found the mobile website quick to load, easy to navigate and just as useful as desktop for the sportsbook functions we tested.

If you only place the occasional bet, bookmarking the site could be all you need. For a sportsbook you use regularly, we’d consider the app. We found WSB and YesPlay’s tested apps easy to use, with betting and account tools working well on smaller screens.

Still, choose whichever feels better on your phone. A good browser experience can be more convenient than installing another app you’ll rarely open.

OptionWhy we’d choose itWhat to keep in mind
Betting appConvenient access to a sportsbook you use regularlyDownload it through the operator’s official routes
Mobile websiteBetting straight from your browser without another downloadBookmark the site or add a home-screen shortcut
Dedicated data-free routeBetting on supported services without using your data bundleUse the specific address or mode and check its coverage

A home-screen icon doesn’t always mean you’ve downloaded a dedicated app. It can also be a shortcut to the mobile website. Either can be useful, provided it opens the official sportsbook and gives you the tools you need.

With Hollywoodbets, choose the main betting app if you want to place bets and manage your balance. Live Scores, Pitchside and Punters Challenge serve different purposes, from following fixtures to reading football coverage and entering prediction competitions.

They’re useful extras if you follow sport closely, but you don’t need the whole collection to start betting.

Downloading Betting Apps on Android, iPhone and Huawei

The download process depends on your phone, but the starting point is the same: use the sportsbook’s official South African website. From there, follow its link to the app store or installation file.

Once you’ve installed the app, log in with your existing sportsbook account. You don’t need a new account just because you’re moving from your laptop to your phone.

For Play.co.za, use the “Install the Play.co.za App” option on its official website and follow the prompts shown on your device.

Android Betting App Downloads and APK Installation

Don’t be surprised if you can’t find the main betting app in Google Play. WSB, Hollywoodbets, 10bet, YesPlay and ZARbet provide Android APK downloads instead. An APK is simply the file Android uses to install the app.

We followed this route during our Android app tests. It adds a permission step, but the operators’ instructions made the process straightforward:

How to get started

4 practical steps
  1. Open the official download page Visit the sportsbook’s website on your Android phone and select the Android app.
  2. Download and open the APK You’ll usually find it in your notifications or Downloads folder.
  3. Allow installation if prompted Your phone may ask you to let your browser install apps. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Install and log in Open the app and use your existing account details, then switch off the browser’s permission to install apps.

The official download button may send you to a separate file-hosting address. Follow that link from the sportsbook’s own website rather than searching for an APK elsewhere.

Betting Apps for iPhone and iPad

Apple users can install WSB, Hollywoodbets, 10bet, YesPlay and ZARbet through the South African App Store. We’d start with the Apple link on the operator’s official website so you land on the right listing.

Tap Get, approve the download and log in once the app opens. Check the listing’s device requirements if you’re using an older iPhone or iPad. If your device isn’t compatible, the mobile website is a practical alternative. Android APK files won’t work on Apple devices.

Our WSB iPhone download needed a few App Store refreshes before it installed, although the app worked smoothly afterwards. If a download stalls, check your connection and retry before assuming the app won’t work on your phone.

Betting Apps for Huawei Phones

WSB, Hollywoodbets, 10bet and YesPlay offer Huawei AppGallery download options. Open the Huawei link on the sportsbook’s official website, check the listing’s compatibility details and follow the installation prompts.

We confirmed these Huawei routes during our research, although our hands-on app tests covered the Android and Apple versions specified in each review. If the app isn’t available for your particular handset, you can still use the operator’s mobile website.

Best Data-Free Betting Sites in South Africa

If you’re watching your data balance, WSB and Hollywoodbets are the two options we’d recommend from our reviewed sportsbooks. Both offer a dedicated data-free route, so you can access supported betting services without using your paid mobile-data allowance.

You’ll still need a connection and mobile data switched on. The difference is that covered traffic isn’t charged to your bundle. That’s more useful than an app being free to download or a mobile site simply using less data.

  • World Sports Betting: WSB is our first choice for data-free sports betting. Its Free Mode covers pre-match betting, live sports and Lucky Numbers, as we found during our WSB review. You can follow the markets and place bets through that route, then use the wider platform when you want other features. Streaming and casino sit outside Free Mode, and the initial app download uses data.
  • Hollywoodbets: During our Hollywoodbets review, we found a separate data-free option alongside its main betting platform. It’s worth using if Hollywoodbets is already your choice for local sport and racing. Open the data-free route through the official website and check that your mobile network is supported before relying on it.

The key is to enter through the designated data-free address or mode. Opening the ordinary website or main app doesn’t automatically make your session data-free.

External pages, including banking services, may also use data, so check what’s covered before moving beyond the betting service.

Match the App to Your Phone, Data and Payout Needs

The best betting app for you depends on how you actually bet. If you’re checking prices at home over Wi-Fi, data-free access might barely enter the decision. If you’re following live markets on a prepaid bundle, it could be the feature you use most.

Here’s where we’d start based on what stood out in our reviews:

What matters to youOur starting pickCheck before choosing
Installing through Huawei AppGalleryWSB, Hollywoodbets, 10bet or YesPlayCompatibility with your particular handset
Keeping mobile-data costs downWSB Free Mode or Hollywoodbets’ data-free routeSupported networks and which services are covered
Betting without installing another appZARbet’s mobile websiteHow comfortably the menus and betslip work on your phone
Researching horse races10bet’s RaceLab toolsAvailable form information and streams for your meeting
Simple navigation for everyday bettingYesPlayWhether it covers your usual sports and markets
Exploring more sports and betting controlsPlay.co.zaAvailability of Bet Builder, Cash Out and Bet Edit on your chosen events
Withdrawing smaller balancesCompare the payout method before picking an appMinimum withdrawal, verification requirements and fees

If you have an older phone, give the mobile website a quick trial first. Find a fixture, open the markets and check the account menu. You’ll soon see whether the layout works comfortably on your screen.

Then check the app’s current compatibility requirements before downloading it.

Start with the sport you follow most. If you mainly bet on the PSL and Premier League, try finding those fixtures and your usual markets. That tells you more about everyday usability than a long sports list or an impressive store rating.

Mobile Features That Help You Place and Manage Bets

During our reviews, we paid attention to how easily we could find markets, build a bet and check the ticket afterwards. Those are the parts you’ll use regularly, so they deserve more attention than how polished the app looks.

Finding Markets and Using Bet Builder

Start by opening a match you’d actually bet on. A long sports menu doesn’t tell you how much choice you’ll get for that particular fixture. Bigger Premier League games can have more markets than smaller local matches, so compare the selections available for your usual competitions.

We explored Bet Builder tools during our Hollywoodbets, 10bet, ZARbet and Play.co.za reviews. These let you combine compatible selections from the same match, such as a result and a goals total. An accumulator usually brings together selections from different events. Builder availability varies by fixture, so check what you can combine before planning the bet.

Read the market name carefully too. Backing a team to win in normal time is different from backing it to qualify. Our soccer betting guide explains those choices in more detail.

Live Betting and Changing Odds

A live price can move between tapping a selection and confirming your stake. We liked ZARbet’s odds-change settings because they let us choose whether to approve a change, accept a better price or accept any movement.

Check your chosen app’s settings before your first live bet so you know how it handles those changes.

Match trackers and scores are useful, but they can be delayed. Don’t assume the clock on your screen gives you an advantage over the bookmaker. Once the bet goes through, open the confirmed ticket and check the odds you actually received.

Cash Out and Partial Cash Out

Cash Out lets you settle an eligible bet early for the amount offered. Partial Cash Out lets you settle part of it while leaving the rest running. Both help you manage a bet; withdrawing moves an available balance out of your betting account.

We found these tools across several reviewed sportsbooks, but availability depends on the ticket.

For example, 10bet excludes certain bet types, including Bet Builders, from Cash Out. Offers can also be suspended as markets change. If Cash Out matters to you, check eligibility before placing the bet and remember that an offer may not remain available throughout the event.

Deposits, FICA and Withdrawals Through a Betting App in SA

Our tests covered cards, mobile payments and vouchers, but we’d check the withdrawal options before making that first deposit. The method you use to pay in won’t always be available for payouts, and minimums matter if you prefer withdrawing smaller amounts.

ZARbet, for example, has a R250 withdrawal minimum, while YesPlay requires an EFT withdrawal before unlocking alternative payout methods. Our South African betting payment guide helps you compare the options.

We’d also complete FICA early using clear documents and your own payment account. At 10bet, our first ID images were rejected for being blurry, but verification went through within seconds once we resubmitted clearer copies.

Sorting that out upfront saves a job when you’re ready to withdraw. Check the payout timeframe for your chosen method too: the bookmaker approving a withdrawal and your bank crediting it are separate steps, so a smooth app doesn’t automatically mean an instant payout.

Betting App Not Working? How to Check Your Bet

We know how frustrating it can be to find your betting app not working. So, if your betting app freezes or loses connection while you’re placing a bet, check your account history before pressing Place Bet again.

A frozen screen doesn’t tell you whether the sportsbook accepted your wager. Start with the recorded ticket, then work through the relevant fix below.

  • Betting app keeps disconnecting: Check whether other websites load on your phone, then try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data if another connection is available. Once you reconnect, check your bet history before submitting anything again.
  • Betting app freezes when placing a bet: Reopen the app and look for a confirmed ticket matching your selection and stake. If it’s there, check the accepted odds and bet reference rather than placing a duplicate.
  • Bet not showing in betting app: Check both open and settled bets, along with any date or status filters. If you still can’t find it and the submission wasn’t clearly rejected, ask support to confirm whether it was accepted.
  • Betting app stuck on pending: Don’t assume a pending message means the bet failed. If the status remains unclear after reconnecting, give support the bet reference, if available, and ask them to confirm its status before you resubmit.
  • Betting app balance deducted but no bet showing: Note the amount, approximate time, event and selection, and take a screenshot of what you can see. Ask support to reconcile the balance change with your account’s betting records.
  • Betting app shows a rejected bet: Check that there’s no matching accepted ticket in your history. If you decide to try again, review the current odds and market first, as the price may have changed since your original attempt.

Compare Betting App Value With the Same R50 Bet

An easy way to compare value is to check what the same R50 bet would return across your shortlisted apps. Use the exact same event, selection and market, including the settlement period.

A normal-time win and a team-to-qualify bet aren’t a fair comparison. Note that these are illustrative odds, not current sportsbook prices, and assume a winning R50 cash bet:

Decimal oddsTotal return on R50Profit
1.8R90R40
1.95R97.50R47.50
2.1R105R55

At 2.10, you’d receive R15 more than at 1.80 for the same winning selection. Calculate the total return by multiplying your stake by the decimal odds, then subtract your R50 stake to find the profit. Better odds increase the potential payout; they don’t make your selection more likely to win.

We’d weigh that price alongside how easily you can find the market, check the accepted odds and withdraw your balance.

Look Beyond the Headline App Bonus

A bigger welcome offer isn’t automatically the better deal. Check the qualifying deposit, minimum odds, wagering requirement and expiry, then make sure the eligible bets suit how you normally play. Our betting bonus guide helps you compare those conditions.

The table above uses your own cash. With a free bet, the promotional stake may not be returned, so the calculation can change. Also check whether an offer is genuinely app-exclusive or simply the sportsbook’s usual promotion available on mobile.

Choosing the Right Sports Betting App

World Sports Betting is our first choice for everyday mobile betting. Its Android and iPhone apps performed well during our tests, Huawei users have an AppGallery option, and the separate Free Mode service adds practical value when data costs matter.

That combination makes it a strong starting point if you follow several sports and want straightforward access from your phone. Your own betting habits might point elsewhere. We’d choose Hollywoodbets for local sport and its companion apps, 10bet for racing research, or YesPlay for its clean mobile experience.

ZARbet stood out for odds-change controls and a smooth mobile website, while Play.co.za impressed us with sports variety and flexible betting tools. Start with the option that suits your regular bets, use its official download route and check the withdrawal conditions before depositing.
