ZARbet is a South African sportsbook and casino operated by Apollo Gaming, and after testing the site ourselves, there is quite a bit here that we genuinely like. Registration took us around a minute, our Capitec Pay deposit reflected immediately, and the sportsbook offered more depth than we expected, with live betting, Bet Builder, Cash Out and a broad range of markets.

However, it’s not perfect. In this review, we tackle everything you need to know before you decide whether or not to create an account, including bonus terms, sportsbook features, payment options, customer support, and what stood out most during our hands-on testing.

An Overview of What We Found During Our ZARbet Review

ZARbet South African Sportsbook

ZARbet left a better impression after using it than we expected from simply looking at the homepage. The strongest parts are practical ones. It is easy to register, the cashier supports the payment methods South Africans actually use, the sportsbook has plenty of depth once you start opening the menus, and the mobile experience did not strip away useful desktop features.

The sportsbook is particularly good for bettors who like having control over how a bet is placed. Bet Builder, live betting, Cash Out, Partial Cash Out, bet IDs, streaming filters and odds-change controls all sit inside a fairly clean interface.

We would like ZARbet to put more weight behind sportsbook promotions. Casino players get tournaments, bonus campaigns and a large loyalty structure, while the sports section feels more restrained by comparison. That does not make the sportsbook weaker, but there is room for ZARbet to give sports bettors more reasons to come back between big fixtures.

What we like

  • Quick signup & optional early verification
  • Excellent South African banking selection
  • Useful control over odds changes in the betslip
  • Strong sportsbook with pre-match & live markets
  • Smooth mobile website plus dedicated app options
  • Bet Builder, Cash Out and Partial Cash Out available
  • Loyalty programme goes well beyond basic bonus credits

What we don't

  • Welcome bonus is primarily for casino players
  • Sports promos are thinner than ZARbet's casino promotions
  • R250 minimum withdrawal is higher than other local bookmakers

ZARbet Bonuses and Promotions

ZARbet runs a mix of welcome offers, casino promotions and sportsbook-specific deals. The casino side gets most of the promotional attention, but sports bettors still have a few useful extras, including boosted odds, early payouts and featured multiples.

ZARbet Welcome Bonus: 200% up to R2,000

New customers can currently claim a 200% first deposit match up to R2,000, with a qualifying deposit starting at R20. To give you an idea of what this looks like across multiple deposit options, we’ve provided a snapshot below:

You depositBonusStarting balance
R20R40R60
R100R200R300
R500R1,000R1,500
R1,000R2,000R3,000

However, there’s an important distinction here if you want to join ZARbet to mainly bet on sport. The welcome bonus funds are intended for ZARbet Original games and carry a 30x wagering requirement on the bonus amount, which is actually low considering other sportsbooks usually carry a 35-40x requirement.

The welcome-offer page also sets a withdrawal cap on bonus winnings. If your qualifying deposit is R1,000 or less, you can withdraw a maximum of 10 times that deposit from the promotion.

For example, a R100 deposit has a R1,000 cap, while a R1,000 deposit has a R10,000 cap. The site also states that deposits above R1,000 aren’t subject to this particular limit. Your matching bonus still tops out at R2,000, and you’ll need to complete the wagering requirements before withdrawing.

Boosted Odds

ZARbet regularly boosts the price on selected sports markets, giving you higher odds than the standard line on chosen outcomes. Availability changes with the sporting calendar, so it is worth checking the promotions section or the “boosted odds” section before placing a bet.

Multiple of the Day

The Multiple of the Day gives bettors a ready-made accumulator built around selected fixtures. It’s useful if you like multis but don’t want to build every leg yourself, although we’d still check each selection and the combined odds before placing the bet rather than treating a featured multiple as an automatic pick.

Early Payout

ZARbet’s Early Payout promotion can settle eligible bets as winners before the match has finished once a team reaches a specified lead. At the time of our review, ZARbet advertised early settlement when an eligible soccer selection went two goals ahead and when an eligible basketball team built a 20-point lead. As with any early payout offer, this only applies to qualifying markets and fixtures, so check the current terms before betting.

ZAR Manager Fantasy League

Premier League fans can also join the ZAR Manager Fantasy League, where players compete against other managers for monthly prizes and larger rewards across the season. It’s a slightly different type of promotion from a free bet or odds boost, but it gives regular football bettors another way to engage with ZARbet throughout the Premier League campaign.

Registering at ZARbet Took Us Around One Minute

Surprisingly, this was one of the easiest parts of our test. We registered on desktop and were finished in roughly one minute. The form asked for the normal account information including email, password, name, date of birth, cellphone number, South African ID number and source of income.

We entered our ID number during registration, but we weren’t forced to upload an identity document before the account could be created. That’s a nice balance for us. ZARbet collects the information it needs for FICA, but doesn’t turn the signup page into a twenty-minute mission.

ZARbet FICA and ID Verification

During our ZARbet review, we decided to verify before it became necessary. Inside the cashier we found a Verify ID option. Here, we uploaded our South African ID card and, when we checked again a few minutes later, the identity verification was already marked as complete.

Keep in mind that ZARbet can still request additional FICA information where required. That may include proof of address, further identification or payment verification, particularly before a withdrawal.

If you want a smoother first payout, we recommend sorting out as much verification as possible early rather than waiting until there are winnings sitting in your account.

How to Open a ZARbet Account

Whether you’re looking to enjoy PSL betting or would simply like to create an account to explore what this sportsbook has to offer, we’ve put together the list below to help guide you through the process.

How to get started

5 practical steps
  1. Visit the Site Click on the banners to make your way to ZARbet and select “Sign Up”.
  2. Set Up Account Details Enter your email address and create a secure password.
  3. Provide Your Information Add your name exactly as it appears on your South African ID.
  4. Complete Setup & Log In Enter your date of birth, cellphone number, ID number and requested account details. Create your account and log in.
  5. Make a Deposit & Start Betting Open the cashier and choose a payment method. If you want the welcome bonus, make your first qualifying deposit of R20 or more, then immediately select “Bonus” then “Claim a Bonus” and enter the promo code ZARBET. Claim within five minutes of depositing, before placing any bets. Choose an eligible ZARbet Original game to use the bonus, as the bonus funds aren’t available for sportsbook bets.

Sports Available at ZARbet

We found a wide selection covering both mainstream and niche events. The menu included football, rugby union, cricket, tennis, MMA, Formula 1, basketball, boxing, golf, baseball, ice hockey and table tennis alongside less common options including Gaelic football, hurling, futsal, snooker, darts, cycling, sailing, Aussie Rules and various esports and virtual events.

That depth is useful because it prevents ZARbet from becoming a “soccer plus three other tabs” type of bookmaker. South African bettors are particularly well served across the sports that matter locally. Rugby Union has its own dedicated section, cricket markets are extensive and soccer coverage goes deep into domestic and international competitions.

If rugby is your main game, we break the sport down further in our rugby betting guide and Test rugby betting guide.

Pre-Match Betting and Market Depth

ZARbet’s pre-match sportsbook is easy to scan. Competitions and sports sit in the left menu, fixtures and featured multiples occupy the centre, and selections move directly into the betslip. There’s also a search bar for finding a competition or team without scrolling through the entire menu.

The betslip shows your combined odds, stake and possible return clearly, and selections that cannot logically be combined are flagged rather than letting you build an invalid multiple.

We also liked the Get Bet ID feature, which creates a bet reference that can be searched or shared, which is handy when you want to recreate a coupon without selecting every leg again.

Odds Movement Controls Are a Small but Useful Touch

Inside the ZARbet betslip, you can choose how the site handles odds changing between selection and placement:

  • Always ask: Means you confirm a changed price yourself.
  • Accept higher odds: Automatically accepts an improvement but still asks if the price moves against you.
  • Accept any odds: Places the bet even when the market moves in either direction.

We’d keep Always ask or Accept higher odds selected. A price shift from 2.00 to 1.85 might look tiny on screen, but across a large multiple it can change the return substantially.

ZARbet Bet Builder

ZARbet has a proper Bet Builder for combining compatible outcomes from the same fixture. That is useful for bets such as a match result with total goals, cards, player markets or other related selections where available.

During our testing the interface was clear about selections that could not be combined, rather than simply producing an unexplained error after we tried to place the bet. Market availability changes between fixtures, so don’t assume every match carries the same Bet Builder menu.

Live Betting at ZARbet

Live Betting at ZARbet

We found the live sportsbook to be one of the better parts of the platform. You can separate Live and Prematch events easily, filter competitions by region and narrow the feed to events with available video streams.

Live event pages show the current score, match situation and available markets together rather than forcing you between several different screens. For selected sports and markets, ZARbet also provides Cash Out.

Cash Out and Partial Cash Out

ZARbet’s rules provide both full Cash Out and Partial Cash Out on selected eligible bets. A full Cash Out settles the bet at the offered value before the event has finished. Partial Cash Out lets you settle part of your stake while keeping the rest of the bet running.

Availability depends on the sport, fixture and market, and ZARbet doesn’t guarantee that Cash Out will remain available throughout an event. That qualifier matters, because Cash Out is a useful option but not a promise attached to every bet.

ZARbet Deposits and Payment Methods

Our cashier showed cards, Capitec Pay, Visa/Mastercard/Amex, Ozow, Instant EFT, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, 1Voucher and OTT among the available options.

The exact minimum depends on the method. During our test, the methods visible in the cashier started at R20, but some carried a R25 minimum.

These limits are worth keeping in mind before you decide on a specific method, as a promotion can have a R20 qualifying minimum while your chosen betting banking method asks you to deposit more.

Our R50 Capitec Pay Deposit Test

We used Capitec Pay to deposit, as it’s one of the most popular methods used on South African betting sites.

From the cashier, we selected Capitec Pay, deposited R50, approved the transaction and returned to ZARbet. The balance reflected immediately and, because we decided to check out the welcome offer ourselves, our bonus was credited at the same time.

There was no awkward waiting period or need to contact support, which is exactly what we want from a local instant-deposit method. Below, we’ve broken down the methods and deposit limits you can expect to find.

ZARbet Withdrawals

ZARbet’s current payout terms set the minimum withdrawal at R250. Note that the payout speed can vary according to the payment method, verification status and banking provider.

The withdrawal page was accessible before we had money available to cash out, which we liked because it lets you see the process before depositing.

At the time of our test it presented EFT and Pay to Card as payout options. EFT displayed a R0.00 fee, while Pay to Card displayed R11.50. However, payment-processing fees vary, so be sure to check the figure shown when you actually submit a request.

ZARbet pays to a verified South African bank/payment method associated with the account without issue. However, it may request additional FICA checks before approving a withdrawal.

We also found that withdrawals remain reversible for up to 48 hours after the request has been made.

ZARbet Mobile App and Mobile Betting

The mobile experience was excellent during our review of ZARbet. The mobile website resized cleanly, menus remained usable and we did not find missing sportsbook functionality compared with desktop. Login and loading were quick and nothing felt awkward or broken.

There’s also an iOS app for Apple users, but we found that Android works slightly differently. Instead of a standard Play Store installation, ZARbet provides an APK that can be downloaded by scanning a QR code, with instructions explaining how to install it.

That extra guidance matters because sideloading an APK is unfamiliar territory for plenty of perfectly capable phone users.

If you don’t want another betting app on your device, the mobile browser version is good enough that there’s little pressure to install one.

ZARbet Customer Support: We Tested All Three Channels

During our testing, we started with live chat and made a point of approaching the agent like a complete beginner asking how the Bet Builder worked. The agent was patient, directed us to the right part of the sportsbook and gave useful answers when we moved onto questions about withdrawals and fees.

We then asked the same questions through phone and email support to see whether the answers changed depending on the channel and we were pleased to find that they didn’t.

The information was consistent across all three. However, the email reply took around three hours, so we would choose live chat or telephone for anything time-sensitive. For something non-urgent where you want a written record, email works perfectly well.

Support channelOur experience
Live chatFast, patient and useful
PhoneClear and consistent with live chat

ZARbet Loyalty Programme

ZARbet has built a surprisingly large loyalty structure around the wider platform. New accounts begin at Level 1, Bronze, and points unlock additional levels and rewards.

The rewards we saw included free spins, ZAR Bonus credits and eventually external rewards such as Takealot and Lekkeslaap vouchers. The ladder stretches all the way to Level 45, where the reward moves into personalised VIP territory.

The required point totals rise dramatically at the higher levels, so most casual players should treat those top-tier rewards as long-term extras rather than something worth chasing through additional gambling.

Responsible Gambling at ZARbet

Responsible gambling tools include deposit limits, session limits, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion.

The broader rule is the same whether you’re using ZARbet or another South African betting site: choose your budget before opening the cashier, not while deciding whether to chase a losing bet. If gambling is becoming difficult to control, the National Responsible Gambling Programme offers free support on 0800 006 008, or you can WhatsApp HELP to 076 675 0710.

Who is ZARbet Best Suited To?

ZARbet makes the most sense for bettors who care about the sportsbook itself rather than chasing one massive sports signup offer. The broad event coverage, live betting, Bet Builder, Cash Out options and betslip controls make it particularly appealing if you tend to build your own bets instead of simply backing a match winner once a weekend.

It’s also a strong option for Capitec users and anyone who wants several familiar South African banking methods under one cashier. Casino players arguably receive more promotional attention at the moment, with ZARbet Originals, tournaments and the loyalty system sitting prominently across the wider platform. For pure sports bettors, our biggest request to the site would be simple: give the sportsbook promotion calendar the same energy.

Is ZARbet Worth Joining?

After testing it properly, our answer is yes, for the right bettor. ZARbet gets most of the boring but important things right. Registration was quick. Verification was easy when we chose to complete it. Our Capitec Pay deposit arrived instantly. Support knew the product. The mobile site worked properly.

And underneath the relatively simple presentation is a sportsbook with considerably more depth than you might expect. The welcome bonus needs to be understood for what it is: primarily a casino offer with meaningful wagering conditions, not free money for sports betting.

We also think the R250 withdrawal minimum and comparatively light sportsbook promotion calendar leave room for improvement. Neither issue changes the strongest part of the site, though.

To sum up, we found ZARbet to be a well-equipped South African sportsbook that feels better once you actually use it than it looks from the outside. For us, the combination of market depth, local payments, live betting and genuinely useful support is what earns it a place among the betting sites worth considering.
